Audrey Helman

Audrey E. Helman, 70, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at her home.

She was born on June 28, 1948, in Chambersburg, a daughter of the late Harold D. and Dorothy Mentzer Hershey and was a 1966 graduate of Shippensburg Area High School. Audrey was a United States Air Force veteran, enlisting on October 13, 1967 and honorably discharged on October 23, 1968.

Audrey worked at JLG Industries, Shippensburg, as a parts handler in shipping and receiving for twelve years, retiring in 2016. Earlier in life she also worked at the Shippensburg Health Care Center and at the Letterkenny Army Depot.

She attended the Prince Street United Brethren Church; was a member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, Shippensburg, and marched with its Minutemen Honor Guard; and was also a member of the Minnequa Social Club.

Audrey enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, golfing, shopping, taking cruises, and helping others. She spent countless hours volunteering at the King’s Kettle Food Pantry, Shippensburg, and enjoyed living life to the fullest.

She is survived by two daughters, Tracy (Corvin) Ridgley of Chambersburg and Melissa (Travis) Wingert of Shippensburg; six grandchildren, Kasaun Shaffer, Bishop Shaffer, Sierra Ridgley, Katrina Ridgley, Skylar Cook, and India Ridgley; three great grandchildren, London Shaffer, Nyla Tolson, and Adonis Shaffer; her best friend, John Kreis of Shippensburg; one brother, Harold “Sonny” Hershey; two sisters, Elaine Keener and Sandy Banks; and several nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m., on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Mike Wentz will officiate. Military honors, conducted by the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion, will immediately follow her funeral service. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to help defray final expenses.
