Atha G. Jones, 84, of Shippensburg passed away on Monday, June 1, 2015 at Green Ridge Village in Newville.
Atha was born on August 16, 1930 in Southampton Township, Cumberland County, she was the daughter of the late William H. III and Grace M. Piper Gilbert, and the widow of Robert “Bob” J. Jones who she married January 2, 1950. Bob passed away December 4, 1998.
Atha was a 1948 graduate of the former Shippensburg High School. She retired as a Licensed Practical Nurse from the former Dr. William A. Nickles General Practice in Shippensburg.
Atha was a member of the Shippensburg Memorial Lutheran Church, Seniors Memorial Lutheran Service Citizens and the Faith, Hope & Love Sunday School Class where she served as the former Altar Guild.
She also was a member of the First Court Chapter #470 Order of the Eastern Star, Shippensburg, OZEMB Temple #52 Daughters of the Nile, Harrisburg, Fort Morris Chapter AARP #3324, and was also a member of Zembo Lassie’s, and the Harrisburg Scottish Society.
Although Atha was the last of her immediate family she leaves behind many cousins and her caregivers Kevin & Robin Nehf and her Godson Randy Smith. Atha was known as grandma to many who were not her grandchildren.
Throughout her lifetime Atha & Bob enjoyed traveling throughout the US and to their beloved Scotland and Ireland.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., with the Rev. Dr. Brenda J. Kiser officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held Friday, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., with an Eastern Star Service conducted by the First Court Chapter #470 O.E.S. at 7:30 p.m. and a second viewing held one hour prior to the service on Saturday in the funeral home.
