Arthur B. Cressler, 89, of Shippensburg, died on the morning of Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at the Shook Home, Chambersburg.
He was born on December 24, 1922 in Shippensburg, a son of the late William H. and Cora Beam Cressler. Arthur was a United States Army Veteran of WW II, inducted on January 7, 1943 he served in Germany and France with the 817th Tank Destroyer Battalion, and was honorably discharged on December 15, 1945. On May 1, 1943, Arthur married Ms. Reba M. Bowers, in Texas, while in radio school training. She preceded him in death on February 14, 2009.
Arthur worked in the Police and Public Safety Department at Shippensburg University, retiring in 1985.
He was a member of the Grace United Church of Christ, a life member of the Cumberland Valley Hose Company #1, both of Shippensburg, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.
Arthur is survived by two daughters, Christine M. (George) Pensinger of Chambersburg and Bonita K. (Raymond) Kress of Shippensburg; one son, David A. (Vonnie) Cressler of Shippensburg; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
His memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 18, 2012 at the Grace United Church of Christ, Shippensburg. The Rev. George W. Heckard will officiate. Interment, with military honors conducted by the Shippensburg Area Veterans Council, will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Monday, at church.
