Amos Earl Neil, 80, of Orrstown, departed this life on the evening of Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at the Harrisburg Hospital.
He was born on January 20, 1937, in Willow Hill, a son of the late Howard C. and Edith A. Devor Neil and married Nora V. Freet on January 29, 1972, in Hagerstown.
Amos was employed at T.B. Woods, Chambersburg, for thirty years, retiring in 2001 as a supervisor. Earlier in life he did some logging and most recently worked as a custodian at the Christ United Methodist Church, Shippensburg.
He was a member of the Shady Pine Mennonite Church, Willow Hill. In his free time, Amos loved to hunt game and mushrooms and go fishing. Those that knew him well enough knew that if you couldn’t find him, you could be sure that he was either out in the woods or along a creek somewhere.
In addition to his wife of forty-five years, Nora, he is survived by three children, Brenda (Barry, Sr.) Punt of Chambersburg, Amos Eugene (Kimberly) Neil of Fannettsburg, and James (companion, Melissa Miller) Neil of Orrstown; four grandchildren, Ross Punt, Barry Punt, Jr., Todd Neil, and Kayce (Dylan) Foor; nine great grandchildren, Zada, Cassidy, Madison, Cloey, Quentin, Kyly-Jo, Josie, Victoria, and Miaya; one great great grandson, Taysean; six siblings, Emmajean (companion, Lester Wenger) Stevens, Chester (Fay) Devor, Susie (Donnie) Melius, Annabell (Elvin) McCleaf, Lulabell (George) Shear, and Marigold “Cookie” (companion, Glenn Shoff) Peck; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Amos was preceded in death by five siblings, Rebecca Brechbill, Nancy Johnson, Andrew Neil, Leo Neil, and Howard Neil.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Marlin ‘Butch” Neil will officiate. Interment will take place in the Upper Path Valley Cemetery at a later date and time. Viewing will be Monday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
