Albert Rosenberry

Albert M. “Rosey” Rosenberry, 75, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the evening of Saturday, August 6, 2016.

He was born on September 11, 1940, in Roxbury, a son of the late Albert M. and Mabel Stoner Rosenberry. Albert was a 1958 graduate of the Chambersburg Area High School and shortly thereafter enlisted in the U.S. Navy in September of 1958. He served and qualified on the USS Runner SS476, as a torpedo man 3rd class, in undersea weapons. Albert was also known to have saved a drowning victim in the Boston Harbor in 1961.

After being honorably discharged in September of 1961, Albert worked at the Letterkenny Army Depot until 1993, when he retired after working in the electronics shop division for 32 years. He also worked for Conquip PTY, LTD, Brisbane Queensland, Australia for two years. He also owned and operated Rosy’s Tavern in Six Mile Run, PA, from 1982 until 1987.

Albert has been a member of the Lurgan Twp. Lions Club since 1961, serving as both president and director; was a member of the Bundaberg Lions Club, Queensland, Australia; a member of the Tang Base USSVI Submarine Veterans, Inc., Pinellas Park, FL; and was inducted into the Holland Club in March of 2009 for being a submarine veteran for fifty years or more. He was an honorary member of the Israeli Air Force for contributions during the first Gulf War. Albert belonged to the AMVETS Post #8, St. Petersburg, FL and locally belonged to the Durf-Kuhn V.F.W. Post #6168 and Minnequa Social Club #375, both of Shippensburg. Albert was extremely proud to have served his country.

Albert was known for liking to spend his winters in Florida, will be remembered for his stories, and his love of gardening and woodworking.

Albert married Betty J. Morrison on August 4, 1962. They had one daughter, Ann (John) Allen of Orrstown and one son, Brian Rosenberry of Shippensburg; grandchildren are, Tracey Mertz (companion Christopher Rhodes) of Gettysburg, Sarah (Morgan) Creek of Fayetteville, Dawn (Matt) Forrester of Big Piney, WY, and James (Jessica) Allen of Chambersburg; eight great grandchildren; and one step great grandchild. Betty preceded him in death in 2002.

Albert married Juanita Barrick Calaman on December 18, 2004. His stepdaughters are Jennifer (Timothy) Heishman of Carlisle; Heidi (Mark) Youngs of Orrstown, and Karriann (companion Jeff Fleming) Mackey of Shippensburg; as well as five step grandsons, Grant C. and Andrew J. Heishman of Carlisle, Dakoda L. Taylor, Landon R. Barclay, and Matthew J. Barclay, all of Shippensburg.

Additional survivors include Albert’s four sisters, Alma Paulus of Carlisle, Bonita Bair of Spring Run, and Zenith Reed of Green Village, and Dawn Gadberry of Ft. McCord. In addition to his parents and two wives, Albert was preceded in death by his brother, Carl Rosenberry.

His funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, August 12, 2016, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor John W. Shubert will officiate. Interment, with military honors conducted by the Shippensburg Area Veterans Council, will follow in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00p.m., at the funeral home.
