Alan L. Roper, 57, of Shippensburg, died Saturday, September 7, 2013 in the Emergency Room at the Chambersburg Hospital.
He was born December 27, 1955 in Baumholder, Germany. Alan was a son of the late Thomas Gordon, Jr. and Barbara A. Bangs Roper.
He was a member of the Mt. Rock Brethren in Christ Church and was a pastor at church. Alan was a member of Christians United for Israel.
He was a manager at the Shippensburg Produce Auction and owned and operated the former Al-Hart Inc. Dairy Farm for over 26 years. Alan was a 1978 graduate of Virginia Tech and graduated from the Brethren in Christ School of Ministry in 2008. He was active within the Mennonite Community and enjoyed traveling. He visited many places during mission trips including; Haiti, India, Israel, Liberia, Thailand and also helped in New Orleans during and after the hurricanes.
He is survived by his wife, Doreen H. Hartman Roper, three children, Bryan A. Roper and his wife Erica of Shippensburg, Emily L. Roper of Grand Blanc, MI, and Megan E. Roper of Shippensburg, two grandchildren, Leah M. and Pierce T. Roper of Shippensburg.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 10 a.m. in the Mt. Rock Brethren in Christ Church. Officiating will be The Rev. Lloyd T. Zimmerman. Burial will be private. A viewing will be held Friday evening at Mt. Rock Brethren in Christ Church from 5-8 p.m. There will be no viewing on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Rock Brethren in Christ Church for Missions to Liberia and or India, 22 Mt. Rock Road, Shippensburg, PA 17257.
