Alan R. Hoover, 87, of Chambersburg, passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at Luther Ridge Skilled Care.
Born Wednesday, September 4, 1935, in Newburg, he was the son of the late Joseph F. and Grace Shuman Hoover.
Alan was a man with many interests and talents. As a skilled carpenter, he built two homes for his family. His children benefited from many hand built furniture pieces. He loved the earth and working with his hands. Often found outside, Alan tended his garden, fruit trees, and roses with love. His grandchildren enjoyed many tractor rides. He was a generous man and extended much to his church, his neighbors, family, and friends. Known for his sense of humor, he made many friends at Luther Ridge. He loved his church and spending time with his brothers at Camp Gnat. Alan served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959 and retired from the Letterkenny Army Depot in 1990.
Alan is survived by his wife Jacquelyn B. Brechbiel Hoover; four children, Ann C. (Don) Baker, Chambersburg, Linda H. (Craig) Husted, Lancaster, Joseph B. (Christy) Hoover, New Cumberland, and Julie R. Harnish, Annapolis, MD; three siblings, Ned Hoover, Newville, William Hoover, Mt. Holly Springs, and Kathryn Lauver, Chambersburg; 10 Grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Alan was preceded in death by three brothers, Philip, Rodney, and Jay Hoover; and one sister Nancy Alexander.
A celebration of life service will be held Monday, July 3, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Shippensburg Covenant Brethren Church, 253 E. Garfield Street, Shippensburg, PA 17257, with Rev. Brian Markle, and Pastor Wayne Hall officiating. Burial will be private. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Monday, at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shippensburg Covenant Brethren Church at 253 E. Garfield St., Shippensburg, PA 17257 or, Spirit Trust Lutheran Village of Luther Ridge at 2998 Luther Dr., Chambersburg, PA 17202.
