Agnes Chamberlin

Agnes M. Chamberlin, 85, a resident of the Orrstown Personal Care Home, formerly of Newburg, died on the evening of Saturday, October 11, 2014 at the Personal Care Home.

She was born on December 11, 1928, in Middle Spring, a daughter of the late James Q. and Anna Mabel Crawford Means and was a 1946 graduate of Shippensburg Area High School. On April 24, 1948, Agnes married James W. Chamberlin in the Manse at Middle Spring Presbyterian Church. He preceded her in death on October 26, 1997.

Agnes was employed as a seamstress at the former L’Aiglon and Marden Clothing Companies, retiring in 1991.

She was a long-time member of the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church, served as a Ruling Elder, taught Sunday School, and sang in the choir for over seventy years; was a charter member of the former Dessie Priscilla Rebekah Lodge #562, Newburg; and a former member of the Ft. Morris A.A.R.P. #2525.

Agnes is survived by her son, James “Ed” E. (Margie) Chamberlin of Newburg; two daughters, Janice C. (Harold) Ile of Newburg and Brenda “Kay” (Ronald) Fink of Shippensburg; one sister, Marie M. Holtry of Newville; eight grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Agnes was preceded in death by her step-mother, Eva McCurdy Means; her brother, Donald Means and one sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Ott.

Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church, Shippensburg. The Rev. Kimberley D. Wadlington and Rev. James Richwine will officiate. Interment will follow in the Middle Spring Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Orrstown Personal Care Home at 3329 Orrstown Rd. Orrstown, PA 17244 or the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church at 135 Middle Spring Ave. Shippensburg, PA 17257.
