Ida L. Showaker, 94, of Newville, departed this life on the morning of Friday, July 10, 2020, at her home.

She was born on December 25, 1925, in Shippensburg, a daughter of the late Ezra and Frances (Killinger) Karper. Ida married Leroy “Ted” E. Showaker on October 28, 1944. He preceded her in death on October 11, 1999.

Ida was a farmer’s wife and homemaker throughout her life. She enjoyed ceramics, swimming with her friends at Cumberland Crossings in Carlisle, and attending events at the Luhrs Center. Ida will be remembered as a wonderful mother and grandmother, who was very dedicated in helping care for and looking after all of her grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Edgar L. Showaker of Newville; four daughters, Barbara D. Egolf of Shippensburg, Doris J. Showaker of Shippensburg, Deborah K. Felix and husband Bennett of Newville, and Cynthia L. Ott and husband Dennis of Newville; five grandchildren, Stacy L. Miles and husband Duane of Addison, NY, Bradley L. Varner and wife Mollie of Newville, Brian E. Varner and wife Robin of Goldsboro, NC, Miranda S. Fisher of Shippensburg, and Madison S. Fisher of Newville; five great grandchildren, Erica N. Kirby, Tyler W. Kirby, Erynn M. Varner, Nathann B.L. Varner, and Noah G. Varner; two great great grandchildren, Ryker C. McDowell and Oaklin C. McDowell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ida was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, July 16, 2020, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Rev. Lester M. Martin will officiate. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be two hours prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Those in attendance are asked to observe the recommendations pertaining to reducing the potential spread of Covid-19; wearing masks, hand sanitizing, and social distancing as much as is possible.

I admired Ida so much because she was still doing aquatics in her late 80's at Cumberland Crossings.
We celebrated her 90th birthday at Mama Spriggs because Ida was a Christmas baby and didn't get many parties. It was a wonderful occasion and Ida was very gracious and surprised.
Ida will be remembered by all of the people whose lives she touched.

To all of the family, thank you for sharing your parents with the Newville community for all of their years , they were good examples of the kind of people we all should learn from and practice the examples they showed us . I learned various lessons from them during my life and can look back and smile at the way they handled themselves in their lives . I know that we must look at ourselves and ask what would they and other examples of that generation advise us to do , many times if we just stop and think about those who set examples for us to follow ,we will be better for having had those tips !
God has blessed us all with good examples like Leroy and Ida and he will help us continue our journeys as we strive to do what’s right !
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all ,during your loss , remember all the good days with them and others like them

When I was young I loved going to Aunt Ida’s and Uncle Leroy’s farm. There was no one in the world like Aunt Ida, warm, welcoming, loving with just a touch of devilment. She always had a twinkle in her eyes and a laugh that would brighten a cloudy day. She and Uncle Leroy raised 5 amazing kids, I am proud to call my cousins. I know she is with Uncle Leroy now and that helps ease the ache in my heart a little bit. Godspeed.
