Obituary

John Paul Weyman, 75, of Frederick, Maryland, previously of Upper Strasburg, Pennsylvania, went to the arms of his loving Lord June 25, 2020, surrounded by his family.

He was born April 28, 1945, in Ashland, Pennsylvania to Elmer and Anna Clews. He was raised from infancy by Joseph and Clara Weyman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Josef Weyman, Walter Clews, Robert Clews, and Eugene Clews. He is survived by two sisters, Shirley Clements, Louise Shutter, and brother Ralph (Kathleen) Clews, all of Lebanon, Pennsylvania.

John graduated from Ashland High school then attended Lancaster Bible College, Calvary Bible College (Kansas City, MO), and Columbia International University (Columbia, SC).

While attending Lancaster Bible College, John met the woman with whom he would serve The Lord with for the rest of his life, Ruth Franklin. On August 5, 1967 he married his sweetheart Ruth.

Surviving are three children, Joy Bishop (Stephen) North Carolina, Lydia Holcomb (Fred) Alaska and Joseph Weyman (Sandra) Frederick, MD along with his nine treasured grandchildren, Wesley Bishop (Cheyenne), Sarah Bishop Darnell (Aaron), Isaac Holcomb, Caleb Holcomb, Josiah Holcomb, Gabriel Holcomb, Levi Holcomb, Samuel Weyman, and Clara Weyman.

John spent several decades serving as Pastor of various churches including Grace Bible Church, Tyrone, PA; Faith Chapel Independent Bible Church, Carlisle, PA and Upper Strasburg Bible Church. John's greatest joy in life was leading home Bible Studies which he continued through the last week of his life.

John was elected as District Court Judge in Franklin County for 12 years. There again he cared about the people he served.

John was a person who loved people and quickly started conversations with anyone he met. His last few years of retirement were spent enjoying his friends at the Upper Strasburg Senior Center where he loved to play dominoes.

John lived a legacy of Faith, leading his family in The Lord, and paving the way for a life filled with love.

Due to concerns regarding Covid-19, John’s funeral service will be privately held on Sunday, June 28, 2020, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Dwight Munson and his son-in-law, Pastor Stephen Bishop, will officiate. John will be laid to rest in the Emanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery, Upper Strasburg. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service on Sunday, at the funeral home. Those in attendance are asked to observe the recommendations pertaining to reducing the potential spread of Covid-19; wearing masks, hand sanitizing, and social distancing as much as is possible.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Upper Strasburg Bible Church at P.O. Box 124 Upper Strasburg, PA 17265.

Hopefully, with the help of the Holy Spirit, I can provide a few words of comfort at this time of John's going home to be with the Lord.
I am sure you are trusting in I Thess 4:13-18 and other familiar passages from God's Word. However, as I thought about the time period that John served as pastor at Faith Chapel, I pulled out my copy of the 50th anniversary booklet that is entitled Faith Chapel's History 1963-2013. As I flipped through the sections and paid a little closer attention to that time period, I was reminded that there were a great number of new ministries that started and often flourished during the years that Faith Chapel was blessed by the presence of the Weyman family. I also recalled a comment my mother often repeated to close Christian friends or relatives, at least up to around the early 1990's. This comment was that she felt he was the most compassionate pastor that we had to that point. To that end, she asked him to pray for me to stop throwing stones at the old trash cans in the empty church parking lot, which I was doing to pass the time while the two of them talked about something under the roof at the church entrance. He told a story about throwing a stone and, as I recall, injuring someone when he was younger. I wish I could say it worked right then and I stopped, but I can't. I can say when the same thing happened to me later (minor, thankfully) I believe I stopped that very day as his story and prayer came back to me.
Hopefully, these few memories will provide some comfort and "JOY" to all of your lives in the coming days. I know what it is like to miss a spiritual giant because I miss the two biggest giants in my life everyday.

My father in law was a great man. He showed himself exactly the way that he was, without any pretenses. He was genuine in everything he did, and he was the first one in my new-acquired family to tell me that he loved me, and he never stopped telling me. I knew he meant it from the bottom of his heart. He prayed for us all by name every single night. He loved his grandchildren, my precious boy and girl. I'm going to miss him dearly. I selfishly wanted my children to grow up with him around, but God had better plans. He gave John complete healing and a beautiful start in Heaven. Thank you for your son, and thank you for loving us so much, Dad. I will miss you.

Joy, We were so sorry to receive news about your dad. We are continuing in prayer for your family. I keep thinking about what you said to me when we were texting...."To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord and I'm so thankful for my dad." It's never easy to when a loved one passes on. If we can maintain that outlook then it just makes heaven even sweeter. Our loss is heaven's gain. However, my heart goes out to you and your family especially your sweet mom during this time. Someone once told me when my dad died, "You didn't lose him.....you know where he is." Maybe not now....maybe not for a while but my prayer for you all is for you to be able to focus on the godly legacy he left behind and for your tears to be transitioned to smiles. Continuing to lift you all up in prayer during this time.

Much love from us all, Junior, Carlee & Cody Kimrey
