David Lee Heckman, 56, of Shippensburg, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2020, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born January 14, 1964 in Mainsville, PA. David was a son of the late Helen M. and Charles L. (Greenawalt) Heckman, Sr.

David is survived by his wife, Leslie A. (Favata) Heckman, two sons, Anthony A. & Vincent T. Adams of Shippensburg, four siblings, Rick R. Heckman of Chambersburg, Randy L. Heckman of Shippensburg, Barbara K. Heckman of Hershey and Charles L. Heckman, Jr. of Shippensburg and his niece and nephews, Travis and Chase Heckman, and Tiffany Ely.

He was employed at David H. Martin Excavating in Scotland, PA for 23 years. David was a former member of the Durff-Kuhn VFW Post # 6168, Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223, Minnequa Social Club and the Hub City Club all in Shippensburg. David was a 1981 graduate of the Shippensburg Area Senior High School.

If you knew David, you know his heart was kind and that he would do anything he could to help anyone in need. He loved to do anything outdoors, including spending as much time as he possibly could at the family cabin “Lucky Buck Camp”. He loved racing and anything to do with it. David was most certainly THE jack of all trades and hobbies. He will be truly missed by many, but never forgotten. David would most likely want you to know that he’s “Gone Fishin”.

A private viewing will be held in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Shippensburg.

I met Dave at the race track many years ago. He was a great guy, just knowing him from there. I never will forget when my accident happened at the track. It was day I will never forget and the things that went on that night. Dave told me that newspaper photographer was going to take a picture of me laying there undress because of the accident. He told the photographer, "you need to go without taking a picture of that girl. If you do take a picture it won't be pretty. Also, I know her brothers and if I don't take care of you, her brothers will." The photographer left immediately, without the picture. Whenever, he seen me after the accident, he always talked to me and told me the story.
