Joan “Jo” E. Bollinger, 83, of Carlisle, departed this life on the morning of Sunday, January 5, 2020, at the UPMC Carlisle Hospital.

She was born on December 14, 1936, in Delaware Twp., Juniata Co., a daughter of the late Lester W. and Hilda K. (Fry) Reeder and married Benjamin A. Bollinger on July 10, 1976. He preceded her in death on December 6, 1997.

Jo worked as a secretary at the former Kinney Shoe, Carlisle, for many years, but was primarily a homemaker throughout her life. She took pride in keeping a clean and tidy home. Jo liked to garden and always took very good care of her yard as well. One of her most favorite things to do was to go on long walks around her neighborhood. Jo also loved looking after and spending time with her dog, Holly.

She is survived by her son, Russell Stine and wife Chris of Carlisle; her granddaughter, Bonni Myers and husband Dale, III, of Orrstown; two great granddaughters, Madison and Alexis Myers of Orrstown; three sisters, Cindy Hockenberry of Florida, Evelyn Reeder of Boiling Springs, and Wilma Clippinger of Carlisle; one brother, Lester Reeder of Carlisle; her dog, Holly; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her second husband, Jo was preceded in death by her first husband, Russel R. Stine; four sisters; and one brother.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, January 10, 2020, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Dale A. Detweiler will officiate. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home

Private Condolence

I want to express my condolences to Jo's family. I just saw her obituary today, Saturday, January 18. My mother, Mary Ellen Dubbs, was her next door neighbor. We had many dinners together and playing cards afterwards. Miss those times. She always made an assortment of candies and cookies over Christmas and we got to enjoy those delicious treats. She was so proud of her family and Bonnie, her granddaughter, took care of my mother when she was in Forest Park Nursing Home. She enjoyed her great grandchildren too. She was always making changes to her house and always taking her walks. She will be missed.

Jo was beloved in our neighborhood. We appreciated her positive attitude and admired how hard she worked; it certainly kept her fit and young . We always enjoyed our walks and talks with Jo and Sparky (our pup and Sparky loved each other). Our block will seem a bit less sunny without Jo and Holly and Jo will be truly missed. We regret we were unable to attend her service. We sincerely wanted to pay our respects for a lady of whom we were very fond. We are very sorry for the family's loss.

I shared many walks around the block with Jo and Holly. We always appreciated her generosity when she would share her delicious cooking with us. We are so sorry for your loss. Jo was a special neighbor.

Jo was a great neighbor. If we were in our front yard when she and her dog walked by she always stopped and talked for awhile. We'll miss her.''
