Obituary

Terry A. Baker, 64, of Shippensburg, departed this life on Friday, May 17, 2019, at his home.

He was born on June 6, 1954, in Chambersburg, a son of the late Donald P. and Dorothy M. Farner Baker and married Barbara K. Harre on June 23, 1973, at the Shippensburg Church of the Brethren.

Terry was employed as a technician at United Telephone and Sprint, and CenturyLink, for thirty-eight years, retiring in 2011. After retiring, he became very interested and involved in gardening. Earlier in life, Terry coached baseball on several different levels, for the local Shippensburg leagues. He was very family oriented and loved spending time with his sons and his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife of forty-six years, Barbara, he is survived by two sons, Preston E. (Alyssa) Baker of Stormstown and Warren J. (Janelle) Baker of Port Matilda; two brothers, Gary L. (Kristine) Baker of Chambersburg and Rick Baker of Shippensburg; four sisters, Gloria J. (Larry) Horst, Judy A. (Robert) Harper, Sharon M. Johnson-Baker, and Connie S. (Cheyenne) Frey, all of Shippensburg; six grandchildren, Hannah, Quinn, Fiona, Carly, Thomas, and Caitlyn; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Terry was preceded in death by one brother, Donald.

His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, May 23, 2019, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Brian Markle will officiate. Interment will follow in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 pm. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Terry's passing and I offer my sincere condolences to his family. I know you will sorely miss such a loving and caring presence in your family. In these difficult times, you can find great comfort in the hope for the future present in the bible at Revelation 21:4. This scripture references future conditions on Earth, in which there will be no more suffering or death. There is also a hope found in John 5:28, 29.  The resurrection that this Bible verse talks about will give us the opportunity to see our lost loved ones again. I know it will be a joyous time when you can see Terry's kind smile once more!

Words cannot express our sorrow at the loss of Terry. He was a wonderful neighbor, whom “adopted” our children as his own grandchildren. The care he took with our children will never be forgotten. Terry was always interested in what they were doing and always willing to teach them something. Terry had our children in his garden when he was planting, weeding and harvesting. Then off to his “man shed” for a snack. Our older sons were so impressed with Mr. Terry when he got down in the catcher position to show them how to stop the baseball. He was the most caring neighbor. My family is heartbroken at the loss of Terry Baker. He was someone that we could count on every hour of ever day. I personally will miss our talks in the driveway which we shared. I have heard many stories about his sons and grandchildren along with his work experiences. Terry loved to show us his family calendar which was produced by his daughter-in-law. Twelve months of family pictures that he was so proud to show. Terry was not just our neighbor. He was a member of our family. May God continue to bless the lives of the people touched by Terry Baker. Ben, Mindy, AJ, Britt, DeLaura and Vincent Sloan
