Obituary

Edna May Sheriff, 72, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the afternoon of Monday, March 25, 2019, with her family by her side.

She was born on December 14, 1946, in Cumberland, MD, a daughter of the late Guy W. Mann and Minnie L. Miller Vanorsdale.

Edna worked as a Pennsylvania State Constable. She was proud to be the first woman in Pennsylvania to be a full-fledged constable and only the second in the entire United States.

In her free time, she enjoyed lap loom, playing cards, puzzles, and watching western movies. Edna was an excellent baker, especially good at baking cakes. She volunteered at the King’s Kettle Food Pantry in Shippensburg for many years. Edna loved her family and especially loved watching and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by six children, Mildred C. “Millie” Piper and husband Michael of Shippensburg, David R. Kerns and wife Nekka of West Columbia, TX, William L. Kerns and wife Tammy of Winter Haven, FL, Garland S. Kerns of Whitaker, VA, Timothy Q. Kerns of Berkley Springs, WV, and Adrean E. Kerns of Carlisle, PA; twenty-one grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; one brother; one sister; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Edna was preceded in death by a daughter in infancy, Annette M. Kerns; one brother, Harold W. Mann; one sister, Sharon L. Mitchell; and her grandmother to whom she was very close, Rachel McBee.

Her funeral services, entrusted to the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg, will be private. There will be no public viewing or visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to SpiriTrust Lutheran Home Care & Hospice or The King’s Kettle Food Pantry.
