Obituary for John M. Hershey Jr.

John M. Hershey Jr.
John M. Hershey, Jr., 92, life-long resident of Shippensburg, departed this life on the morning of Wednesday, October 3, 2018, at his home.

He was born on July 21, 1926, in Shippensburg a son of the late John M. and Elva R. Dyarman Hershey, Sr., and married Marie C. Dooley on October 2, 1948, in Walnut Bottom.

John was employed at Shippensburg University, as the first ever Garage Supervisor, for twenty years. After retirement, he focused on his business in small engine repair, until 2016, due to a decline in his health. John loved to work and when you stopped by his place, you would always know where to find him… his garage and working.

In his free time John liked going to Charles Town, WV, to watch the horse races. He enjoyed listening to country music, especially Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and Elvis Presley. Most important of all to John was the time he was able to spend with all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of seventy years, Marie; one daughter, Donna Rae (Donald) Shatto of Carlisle; Brian M. (Nancy) Hershey of Chambersburg; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one step-granddaughter three siblings, Mildred Priest, Wayne Hershey, and Sandra Hockenberry; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by eight siblings, Loretta Craig, Daniel Hershey, Mary Jane Bender, Bruce Hershey, V. Jean Kelly, Frank Hershey, Pat Lovell, and Richard Hershey; and his beloved dog, Brandy.

His funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, October, 6, 2018, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Mike Wentz will officiate and will be assisted by John’s grandson, Chris Hershey. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
