Obituary for Sarah Louise Smith (Durff)

Sarah Louise Smith (Durff)
Sarah Louise Smith, 92, a resident of Menno Haven, formerly of Shippensburg, went home to be with the Lord, on the morning of Sunday, September 30, 2018.

She was born on January 31, 1926, in Shippensburg, a daughter of the late Clarence and Helen Johnston Durff and married Paul W. Smith on January 16, 1945, in Hagerstown, MD. He preceded her in death on November 14, 1991.

Sarah worked as a seamstress at several of the former local garment factories, retiring in 1971 from Marden Clothing. She was a long-time member of the Shippensburg First Church of God. Sarah liked to read in general, but especially enjoyed studying her Bible. In younger years, she liked to camp, go bowling, and roller skate the two-step and waltz with her late husband Paul.

She is survived by two sons, Richard E. (Connie) Smith of Carlisle and Alan L. (Darinda) Smith of Shippensburg; one daughter, Marlene K. (Jay) Lytle of Chambersburg; one sister, Ruth Durbin of Menno Haven; two sister-in-laws, Esther Creamer and Janet Uglow; six grandchildren, Anthony (Stephanie) Smith, Jeffrey (Kathy) Smith, & Scott (Jessica) Smith, all of Carlisle; Stephan Smith formerly of Shippensburg; Summer (Brad) Lytle-Rock and Terra (Loren) Lytle-Decker, both of Chambersburg; eighteen great grandchildren, Megan, Sarah, Nathan, Jack, Henry, Annie, Emily, Parker, & Addison Smith; Logan and Clinton Hutchins; Olivia, Caleb, Josiah, and Micaiah Lytle-Decker; and Bradley, Joseph, and Emmett Lytle-Rock; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sarah was preceded in death by one brother, Jesse Durff; and two great grandchildren in infancy, Celeste and Anastasia Lytle-Rock.

Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, October 5, 2018, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Loren Decker will officiate. Interment will follow in the Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. Viewing will be Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shippensburg First Church of God at 121 East King Street, Shippensburg, PA 17257.
