Obituary for Betty A. Young (Swartz)
Betty A. Young, 87, a resident of the Orrstown Personal Care Home, departed this life on the morning of Monday, April 2, 2018, in the home.
She was born Monday, July 21, 1930 in Middle Spring, Cumberland County, PA, a daughter of the late Paul and Frances Dunlap Swartz.
Betty worked as a seamstress at the former Penn Pants, L’Aiglon and Greif companies, Shippensburg. She was a member of the Ridge Church of the Brethren and taught children’s Bible school for over 20 years. Betty also taught Bible Release for over 20 years. In her free time, she and her late husband John enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and traveling.
She is survived by three sons, Michael G. Boring and his wife Leanna of Aspers, Thomas E. Boring and his companion, Mary Hendrix of Burleson, TX, and James A. Boring and his wife Barbara of Greer, SC; one daughter, Linda V. Driver of Azle, TX; one brother, Kenneth Swartz of Shippensburg; three sisters, Mae Holtry, Janet Mose, and Joyce Bender, all of Shippensburg; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; her companion for over sixteen years, Charles Dyarman of Newville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents Betty was preceded in death by her ex-husband, George Boring; her second husband, John Landis; and her third husband, John Young. Two infant children, Richard and Marsha; one sister, Martha Spear; and one brother, Paul Swartz, are also deceased.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, April 9, 2018, in the Ridge Church of the Brethren, Shippensburg. The Rev. Harold Yeager will officiate. Interment will follow in the Ridge Cemetery. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.
